SharePoint Audit Log Purging and Archival
SharePoint provides an
automatic trimming feature
to purge audit entries when they reach a certain age and SharePoint can automatically
export those events to the Excel based reports found under the "View Auditing Reports"
page in Site Collection Administration.
However, the audit entries effective remain in the content database where
they continue to occupy expensive SQL server storage and are vulnerable to tampering.
