Learning How to Survive DarkSide Ransomware: From Initial Discovery Through Data Recovery Using the Colonial Pipeline Attack as the Example

Webinar Registration

The recent DarkSide ransomware attack that left a material portion of the United States East Coast feeling the impact at the pump, serves as more than just a warning to other organizations that aren’t truly prepared for such an attack; it also can be an opportunity to learn what actions work and which ones don’t when immediacy and accuracy matter most. With most ransomware attacks fully in “double extortion” mode (that is, encrypt and exfiltrate to double the chances of getting paid) and some even in triple extortion mode (where threatening to inform the press, customers, partners, investors, etc.), having experience in planning for and responding to such attacks is a critical skill.

So, how do you develop the skills and expertise without first becoming a victim?

In this real-training-for-free session, Microsoft MVP and cybersecurity expert Nick Cavalancia takes my seat and will first discuss the attack on Colonial Pipeline, including both released and speculated attack specifics, providing insight into what can be done to prevent attacks like this one.

Nick will be joined by Kev Breen, Director Cyber Threat Research, Max Vetter, Chief Cyber Officer, and Chris Pace, Technical Advocate, all from Immersive Labs who will walk you through a unique interactive crisis simulation, where you will individually test your skills live during the webcast to see whether you have what it takes to quickly and accurately respond using a simulated DarkSide ransomware attack. You’ll be asked to piece together available intelligence and make decisions throughout the simulated evolving attack in real-time.

While Chris walks us through the simulated DarkSide attack, Kev will take on the role of the SOC analyst, with Max looking at the attack through the lens of a corporate executive. We’ll discuss each step of the attack, with new details being provided as the simulated attack develops, as each of you walk through the simulation yourselves to see how well your decisions fare and where you can shore up your response skills to be better prepared for the real thing.

This real training for free event will be jam packed with technical detail and real-world application. Register today!
