BitLocker Recovery Password Look-up Tool for Active Directory
Whenever you encrypt data you run the risk of losing access to important business information. I regularly get frantic emails from desparate administrators whose boss no longer has access to files on his laptop due to a careless implementation of encryption.
But you don't need to be a statistic. Make sure you implement and test an appropriate recovery method for Bitlocker drive encryption before turning this new technology loose on your organization!
I strongly recommend using Group Policy to force Vista to backup the recovery key to Active Directory. To do this you'll need to run a simple script to update the AD schema and make an easy group policy change. Click here for information on how to do both. |

But wait!
How do you access the recovery key from AD once you need it? Until recently there was no easy-to-use tool available for accessing those backed up keys once you need them.
